LOCAL MP BEATS CAMERON TO COMMONS ENVIRONMENT PRIZE

Mark Lazarowicz, MP for Edinburgh North & Leith, beat David Cameron and a host of other MPs to win a prestigious environment award at the PRASEG Sustainable Energy Award ceremony yesterday.

The winners of the awards were announced during a dinner at the Commonwealth Club, London last night. The award ceremony recognised the efforts of parliamentarians, NGOs and individuals who have made significant efforts in encouraging Westminster to adopt policies favourable to renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Mark said: “I am delighted to accept this award which recognises the success of the Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Act. Over the last year there has been a huge increase in both public and media interest in small scale renewable energy – microgeneration – and this legislation provides an opportunity for industry, local authorities and central government to respond to this public demand.

Mark continued: "The publication of the Government’s Energy Review report shows that renewable energy is part of the overall energy mix and we must now work to ensure renewables play a central role in the future.”

PRASEG, the associate Parliamentary Renewable and Sustainable Energy Group, is the all party group for UK politicians and senior industry stakeholders which exists to promote sustainable energy issues in Parliament and the wider political community.
